Zurich Retains its Status as Best Swiss City in the ICCA Ranking

Zurich ranks 42nd in the ICCA Ranking 2017, thus undisputedly remaining the best placed Swiss city.

The 2017 rankings published by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) place Zurich with 57 ICCA-conform events in 42nd position worldwide – ahead of Sao Paulo and Cape Town with 55 and 53 events respectively. Thus Zurich has climbed no fewer than 20 places compared to the previous year. Zurich therefore is and remains the most attractive Swiss city, particularly for European association conferences with fewer than 500 delegates. Its biggest Swiss rival, Geneva, ranks 67th with 38 meetings, while the third highest-placed Swiss city, Basel, is 91st with 29 meetings. Topping the list for the first time is Barcelona, with 195 meetings in 2017. In the rankings by country, Switzerland holds the very respectable 17th place worldwide, an increase of 3 places compared to last year.

The ICCA Ranking is published annually. Included in the statistics are international association meetings that are held on a regular basis, are attended by at least 50 delegates, and rotate between at least three countries. The ICCA was founded in 1963 by a group of travel agents to exchange information on international congresses and conventions. Nowadays it is the largest non-profit trade organization for the meetings industry, and has over 1,000 members in more than 90 different countries. These suppliers come from a variety of sectors, including destination marketing, meetings management, meetings support, and transport.
