Zurich is the world’s third-best MICE destination in terms of sustainability (see GDS ranking 2019) – reason enough to devote a special event to this topic.
On October 28, 2019, Zürich Tourism once again invited potential organizers of association conventions to an annual information event in the Le Corbusier Pavilion. The 50 seats in the lecture room were quickly filled, as both the location and the theme of the evening met with considerable interest.
Inspiring Lectures, Great Ideas, and a Successful Evening
“Those who pursue a strategy of sustainability when planning events need service providers who uphold the same values,” said Uta Kroll, Head of the Convention Bureau. And Zürich Tourism has all the right contacts at the appropriate service providers of sustainable events.
Next, Gina Moergeli from the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department at ETH Zurich presented a new tool that is scheduled to go online at the end of 2019. With this tool, event planners will find numerous tips on simple ways to make events more sustainable.
Finally, Michael Hollstein from Aroma AG reported on the Zero Waste Festival, which was held in and around the NŒRD commercial and residential building in Zurich in summer 2018. The 4,000 festival visitors produced just 48 kilos of waste, which is equivalent to 12 grams per person. Similar events generate an average of one kilo of waste per person per day.
Following the presentations, during an apéro riche served by Mezza9 Catering, the participants had plenty of opportunity to chat to the speakers and the Zurich Tourism partners present and ask any questions.
“I am really impressed by the event and motivated to organize events that are even more sustainable in future,” concluded one participant.
