New Hotels and Venues to Open by 2024

Numerous new hotels and venues are scheduled to open in Zurich by 2024. The diverse range of establishments in the city of Zurich and surrounding region will thus be enhanced by promising new options in the meeting and incentive market.

The largest new hotel in Zurich is the major construction project, The Circle, which is due to be completed at the end of 2020. A convention center with capacity for up to 1,500 delegates has been built at Zurich Airport after a construction period lasting around five years. Shopping facilities, 12 restaurants, and green outdoor areas will create a new services hub for Zurich in addition to the city center. A total of 550 new guest rooms will be available at the Hyatt Place and Hyatt Regency.

Knies Zauberhut, a multifunctional event arena for up to 500 visitors, is to open at Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil at the beginning of 2021.

Situated between the airport and the Old Town, Joyn Zurich –  the brand’s first hotel in Switzerland – opens in spring 2021.  With 104 hotel rooms, 343 serviced apartments, a coworking lounge, restaurant, bars, and other services, the hotel is particularly geared towards extended-stay guests.

Switzerland’s first Ameron Boutique Hotel will also reopen on Utoquai in spring 2021 after undergoing complete renovation. Planned are 60 rooms and suites, experience dining, and a variety of meeting facilities.

In early summer 2021, the Marriott International will open its new 86-room Moxy Hotel Rapperswil-Jona. It is the first property of the on-trend brand in the Zurich region.

Also scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2021 is the Intercityhotel Zurich Airport. The project provides for 260 rooms and a conference area with around 450 square meters (4,850 sq.ft) of floor space.

A second congress center, the tradition-steeped Kongresshaus Zürich with views of the lake and the Alps, is to reopen in summer 2021 following complete renovation. Spread over an area of approximately 5,300 square meters (57,000 sq.ft), the 20 or so rooms and foyers will offer space for all kinds of events with up to 4,500 persons.

On the southern side of the city in Wollishofen, another hotel will open in the first half of 2021 on the 2,000-watt Greencity site. The Greencity hotel, owned by the German Meininger Group, offers some 170 rooms with a total of 600 beds. Besides the classic single and double rooms, it also features both private and shared multi-bed rooms.

In mid-2021, the Fischerstube restaurant on the Zürichhorn will be replaced by a brand new building. Around 290 seats will be available in the restaurant, on the lakeside terrace and on the veranda. The Fischerhütte, which can also be used to host events and seminars, seats around 30 guests, while the garden restaurant caters for approximately 200 persons.

In summer 2021, the Hotel Atlantis will reopen under new management. The first project by Five Hotels and Resorts on Swiss soil encompasses 87 luxurious, contemporary-style suites and several award-winning dining concepts.

The Capsule Hotel Zurich Airport will open in the second half of 2021 in a prime location directly opposite Check-in 1. As the largest hotel of its kind in Switzerland, it offers 140 sleeping capsules together with catering facilities, co-working spaces, and meeting rooms on an area of around 1,000 square meters (10,800 sq.ft.). Fall 2021 also sees the opening of the brand new extension of the Kunsthaus Zürich. A multi-purpose banquet and event hall with first-class acoustics will provide an additional platform for all kinds of events with between 50 and 500 guests.

The Niu Hotel will open its doors in fall 2021 in the “Glasi-Quartier” in Bülach, north of Zurich. The hotel houses 131 guest rooms and a 330-square meter (3,550 sq.ft.) living lobby complete with reception, bar, and restaurant.

A new Ibis Styles and Adagio Aparthotel with 260 rooms, located near Zurich Main Station, should be ready for occupancy in october 2021. It comprises conference rooms, hotel rooms, and apartments of 3-star standard spread over six floors. The top floor will feature a rooftop bar.

At the end of 2021, the Ruby Hotel with 208 rooms will open in the charming, historically protected building of the former ABC movie theater, situated in the immediate vicinity of Zurich Main Station.

New Openings Between 2022 and 2024

In time for the start of the ice hockey season, the Swiss Life Arena Zürich will open its doors for the first time to up to 12,000 spectators in late summer 2022. In addition to sports events, it is also suitable for staging large-scale events, such as annual shareholder meetings or movie premieres.

The brand new construction replacing the original building of the Dolder Waldhaus hotel is expected to be completed in 2023 and will treat guests to a fantastic view over the city and Lake Zurich. The 4-star Superior hotel features 97 guest rooms and suites, as well as nine serviced apartments and two meeting rooms.

Switzerland’s first Zleep hotel, Zleep Hotel Zurich Kloten, plans to welcome its first guests in the first quarter of 2023. The 90-room economy hotel is part of a newly created neighborhood. The Zleep brand is committed to fighting food and energy waste.

In 2024, the Revier Hotel Neuhausen am Rheinfall, with its comprehensive seminar infrastructure, is scheduled to open on the SIG industrial site in Neuhausen. Located directly on the edge of the site, the hotel offers a spectacular view of the Rhine Falls.

Another thing to look forward to is the reopening of the renovated and newly presented Rapperswil Castle in early summer 2024.

The reopening of the Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich is planned for mid-2024. Following extensive renovation work, the tradition-steeped hotel with 80 rooms and various meeting and event spaces will shine out in new splendor.
