Lake Water & Grape Juice – the Zurich Convention Bureau Tests Supporting Programs

On this team excursion, the Convention Bureau team paddles across Lake Zurich in a Canadian canoe and tastes some first-class wine: an assessment report.

In the morning, the S-Bahn train takes us from Zurich Main Station to Rapperswil, the destination of today’s excursion, in 36 minutes. Directly opposite the station and not far from the lake, a delicious breakfast buffet is awaiting us at the Sorell Hotel Speer.

Duly fortified, we make our way on foot to the Water Sports Centre in beautiful late-summer weather. After a short guided tour through the boat shed, we are familiar with the differences between the individual canoes, kayaks, and rowing boats. Next we head down to the water with an expert coxswain and all paddle together in a Canadian canoe out onto Lake Zurich. We quickly fall into a regular rhythm and, accompanied by various waterfowl, we soon reach Lützelau Island. We land the canoe and enjoy lunch in the sunshine. The chef recommends “Knusperli” – fried battered pieces of fresh fish straight from Lake Zurich – and we happily follow his advice.

Afterwards, with our bellies full and our bodies rested, we set out on the return trip. Once on land, we recover from all our energetic paddling by relaxing briefly in the sun, before embarking on a city tour of Rapperswil. During this guided walk through the picturesque Town of Roses, we learn all kinds of fascinating information from both past and present.

With our heads full of new impressions, after a walk we finally arrive at the Höcklistein winery towards evening. Here we have the chance to rest our weary feet while we taste different wines from the region and tuck into delicious appetizers. Afterwards, on the terrace we enjoy the magnificent panorama as the day slowly draws to a close, accompanied by a beautiful sunset.

Our conclusion: a really fun team excursion for active people.
