On June 9–10, 2016, the ETH Zurich and the Schulthess Clinic jointly hosted the 22nd Annual Conference of the Swiss Society for Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine (SSB+RM). The theme of the convention, «Biomaterials in Translation», attracted almost 100 delegates to the new Schulthess Auditorium. The conference was opened with a welcome address by Dr. Michael Leunig, and the first day was brought to a close with the Young Scientists’ Session, including an inspiring lecture by Prof. Katrien de Bock. The following day began with the Clinical Translation Session, with a lecture by Prof. Max Emmert from the University Hospital Zurich, who spoke about his preclinical experiences in the field of cell-based therapies for the heart. Among the highlights on the second day was a visit to the human performance laboratory, with highly fascinating demonstrations.

Zurich presented itself as an extremely attractive destination for the conference delegates. During dinner at the Restaurant Belcanto, our guests were treated to first-class cuisine and a magnificent view over the lake.

Zürich Tourism’s Convention Bureau assisted us with a highly professional service. Besides giving us general tips about organizing a congress and supplying us with picture material, the staff also helped with booking hotel rooms for the executive committee and with finding a suitable dinner venue.
