With its vineyards covering a total of 613 hectares, the Canton of Zurich is the largest and most important wine-growing canton in German-speaking Switzerland. It is the main cultivation area for the old grape variety, Räuschling, which tastes particularly good with fish. Wine is produced not only in the so-called “Weinland” in the north of the canton, but also on the shores of Lake Zurich and even in the city center. The wine bars and the corresponding supporting programs are as varied as the vineyards themselves.
Wine Dining in Zurich
The award-winning wine cellar, The Vault, housed in the basement of the Carlton restaurant on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, is perfect for out-of-the-ordinary banquets on a small scale. More than 990 different types of wine can be tasted here. The wine library at the Park Hyatt Zurich hotel also promises a very special private dining ambiance. Separated from the restaurant by floor-to-ceiling windows, 3,000 bottles of delicious grape juice are stored here. High above the city is the wine cellar of the Uto Kulm hotel. A long table in the underground vaulted cellar invites guests to indulge and linger awhile.
Wine Tasting and Bouquet Training
How about holding a meeting in the Vinothek of Landolt Weine, followed by a wine-tasting session? Or perhaps you prefer a leisurely apéro on the terrace of the Höcklistein winery while watching the sun set over Lake Zurich? The 500-year-old wine cellar in the Laufen Castle on the Rhine Falls also provides a spectacular setting for wine tastings.
The atmosphere at the Jelmoli department store is completely different. Its delicatessen department offers exclusive tastings for groups. The gastronomic team activities enable participants to find out more about wine in a fun way. Have your guests solve various tasks relating to wine bouquets, spices, and table etiquette. For amateur cooks, we recommend a professional barbecue cooking class with wine tasting, in the middle of the vineyards. Or take your team on a leisurely cruise on Lake Zurich and at the same time taste your way through the diversity of Swiss wines and cheeses.
Stroll Through the Vineyards
Feel like some exercise? Then take a stroll with your group through the picturesque wine-growing village of Rafz and visit a local winegrower. Or after a walk through the historical Chillesteig vineyard, take a look behind the scenes of Zurich’s only wine press facility and sample wines directly from the tank or barrel.
A perfect combination of wine and water is offered in the Eglisau Region: Guests start their delicious journey of discovery by foot before embarking on a boat on the river Rhine to later enjoy a wine tasting in a wine cellar. Gourmets get to experience a very special moment on the «Wine & Dine» Tour, where a local chef and sommelier take them to different hidden restaurants. While enjoying food and wine, the guests discover the art of Food & Beverage Pairing.
Still nothing to your taste? Then plan your next after-work drink in the bar of the RadissonBlu Hotel, with its impressive Wine Tower. There you will see angels flying!
